Music hello my name is Dominique artists I am an assistant chief of the administration and Training Bureau for Dallas Fire Rescue I'm here today to talk about the National Fire incident reporting system this system has two objectives number one is to provide a fire incident reporting system for state and local governments as well as to provide a system that has information to provide analysis for local state and governments to combat the fire problem in their area in furs inference is used by the National Fire Academy as well as the United States Fire Administration to develop programs to educational programs for fires the fire service as well as to look at and predict fires behavior in the future one thing that we've talked about here at the academy I talked about me going to the National Fire Academy for a class one of our pre-class assignments was to bring all of our emphasis to the classroom before class started and as you know we all did and one of the things that stood out to me is when we begin to look at the data a lot of the other cities were able to say exactly what happened on run they had a fire they laid for ladders they had three cross lays that was 300 feet they tied into a plug used it for two hours they lay 17 tarps they did overhaul with, and it took so many hours to do and when I looked at I data I could tell you that we had a run that we had so many companies responded that we were there on scene for so many hours that we did do fire tag but some data after that was kind of sketchy infants' system allows us to capture data that is used not only by us as stakeholders but around the country other areas of the state as well local leaders the information from runs are used to support exactly what we do here as a fire service the information also allows us to go before our local leaders and show that it's important for certain pieces of equipment certain personnel to be located in different areas and pockets of the city, and it also helps to help us to justify our budget and why we need the different things that we ask for the data that we use that you put in, and I put in we have a chance here right now as we go through this class to not only improve the data but make sure that we're capturing all the things that we want to capture when we own these different incidents it's important that as we go forward from here that we realize that this is just not busy work that it's important that whatever is shown or whatever we do on those particular incidents that we record it so for later use not only for us but for other cities looking at data of the fire departments look at our data to be supportive of the fire service to combat the fire problem that's seen all around the country the information is very valuable not only for us, but it's valuable for the local leaders as well as the City Council as well as the state to show exactly what is happening in their particular States so as we go to this new class this gives us an opportunity...
