III. Responsibilities of the Economics Section: The role of the Economics Section in support of the development of undergraduate students is to assure that no economic curriculum is created without input from Economics faculty and the other faculty in the Faculty of Arts. We have the responsibility to ensure that every economics course is taught with an accurate and balanced set of topics, including the content specified in this curriculum. We are to be aware of the needs and capabilities of each student, and to create an appropriate curriculum for each student. While the University is open to differing views on the economic issues, we hope to work to the best of our ability to achieve the goals stated above. An emphasis will be placed on the application of the subject in a manner that will provide a clear sense of its relevance to the needs of the 21st century economy. In order to achieve these goals, all members of the Economics Department must: A. Be willing to work directly with students to determine curriculum for the particular topics in concern; B. Be willing to share knowledge of the subject with all Economics students regardless of whether they have taken a specialization course in the subject or have taken a general economics course as an undergraduate; C. Commit to review and be responsible for the completion of all submitted courses for the year as well as to fulfill a minimum number of hours of the General Education Requirements and the Economics major or minor requirements within the confines of the academic year; D. Work cooperatively with other Divisional staff and faculty and the Office of Planning in the development of programs for all students, and the preparation of a written budget which should indicate both the specific units and hours in each course that is to be covered in the proposed program; and E. Work under the guidance of an Economics Director to ensure the overall success of the department. These requirements are based partly on professional experience, and are designed to ensure a sound economic education at both URN and the University of Minnesota.
