Abstract This standard establishes a mechanism for establishing mail exchanges of one set of messages, such as text messages, between an address book that contains one or more recipients, and an internet service, such as a mail server. Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is an end to end messaging protocol and is designed to handle the transmission of a standard mail message as it passes between the sender and receiver. This specification is consistent with the Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) standard for remote procedure calls (PCs), and implements SMTP. This service requires the use of a mail server that supports the SMTP protocol as documented in this document. This is one of the few protocols that the service must support. This specification extends SMTP as follows: 1. Introduction [SMTP-1DES] RFC822], which are considered obsolete by this specification. The purpose of this specification is to specify a method of establishing a connection between an address book that contains one or more recipients, and an internet service that accepts messages sent by its users, without requiring the server to support RFC 822, or any other connection related protocol. In particular, this specification does not specify how to validate messages, or how to identify the origin of messages. 2. Acknowledgements [SMTP-1CLIENTEVERYONE] John K.
