Who needs K-40 Form?
The K-40 is the Kansas Individual Income Tax form. It should be submitted by residents and part-year residents of the State of Kansas and non-residents who derive income in the state.
What is the K-40 Form for?
The Kansas Income Tax Return is completed on a yearly basis in order to calculate, report income to tax authorities, and pay the due amount of taxes. The reported income may be those obtained through wages, interest, dividends, capital gains and other profits.
When is the Kansas form 40 due?
The Individual Income Tax Return form must be filed prior to the fifteenth day of the fourth month after the end of the tax year. In case the taxpayer fails to submit the form and all the required attachments on time, an extension for filing can be requested.
Is Form 40 accompanied by any other documents?
Yes, Form 40 should be supported by a number of forms and documents explaining the information the filer provides. The list of the mandatory attachments can be checked in the instructions.
How do I complete the Form?
The taxpayer must reveal such information about themselves and their spouse while completing the K-40 form:
- Full names;
- Social Security numbers,
- Address (including city, state, zip code)
- Contact telephone number;
- Type of return if amended;
- Filing status;
- Status of residency;
- Exemptions and dependents (their names, Dobs, SSNs and relationship);
- The next section of the two-page form requires indicating a lot of financial details:
- Food Sales Tax Credit information;
- Amount of Deductions;
- Computation of Tax;
- Credits;
- Use Tax;
- Withholding and payments;
- Balance due;
- Indication of overpayments (if any).
Finally, the filer (and joint filer) must date and sign the Kansas Form 40.
