The Board of Supervisors Asthma Task Force presented its recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on asthma. This is the first time a city-wide task force in San Francisco has conducted a public hearing on asthma and provided recommendations to the Board of Supervisors. There was a wide variety of presentations, but most seemed to be in support of increased funding for asthma as well as increased education efforts for both medical personnel and the public on asthma treatment as well as an increased emphasis on air quality. The majority of presentations were made by people with asthma, and many of the people in attendance seemed to be people with asthma themselves. Most speakers, speakers and participants were well-informed, but most did not seem to know what was being discussed. Several presentations went into great detail about the relationship of air quality to asthma, but some were very simplistic or made inaccurate claims. Although the information was provided, it was difficult to determine all of its source. Some information was simply not supported with research and evidence. The speakers and participants did seem to be well-informed. However, a few speakers suggested that, by trying to correct the condition, by changing air quality, people suffering from asthma might be doing them harm. There were some who suggested that people with asthma be more vigilant. There were also some who suggested using inhalers and other approaches to help reduce asthma symptoms. There was not enough education to allow any to determine which approaches worked. It was difficult to determine the most effective methods of disease prevention. All three methods of asthma control and asthma control related to disease prevention should be pursued because they all provide people with asthma and other diseases with some relief. It was also unclear which approaches most directly impacted the causes of asthma, which ones worked and which ones did not work. Because so much information was presented during the public hearing, it is impossible to summarize them here. For a full description, a PDF version of the report can be viewed at the San Francisco Board of Supervisors website:. This document is the final report of the Asthma Task Force (AA STF) from May 22, 2006, through May 31, 2006. The Task Force was co-chaired by Dr. Carlton B. The Goodliest Place Community Health Advocacy Committee Chair, Maria Elena Alioth, and Dr. Neil Gender, chair of the Air Quality Committee, and was composed of: Dr. Carlton B.
