K-2 classrooms across the state. As a teacher, you will walk into this workshop with some background, some tools, and some questions to ask yourself as you prepare to use the new strategies. You will learn about how to create a writing lab (both writing activities and teaching writing) within a balanced literacy program. You will learn about what it means to engage students, and how the creative process works. After the workshop, you will return with some strategies and questions to use as you prepare a teaching portfolio and then teach writing. This workshop will cover four areas of writing teaching: Writing Lab: Using multiple writing practices building and support our students' writing development. Teaching-Based Writing: Using creative writing approaches such as the “one question a day” model to build writing competency. Developing Academic Writing: Using the “one paragraph at a time” approach to develop writing competence. Writing for the Web: A process for writing for the web, so students can learn how to think critically about what they write. This seminar will provide you with some new strategies and skills for teaching writing within a Balanced Literacy Program. You will not need to bring a laptop to this workshop. The workshop includes access to the computer and is entirely self-directed. About the workshop Teacher-Teacher: A teacher-teacher relationship typically exists when you have at least two teachers that teach together. You teach each other, support each other, and work together. You learn the other teacher's style, and you exchange ideas. Most of all, you learn how to listen and learn from the other teacher. With Balanced Literacy, we have blended three different curricula within each classroom to provide a classroom-teacher-parent experience. In Balanced Literacy, most teachers (except those who are dedicated to Independent Fundamental Literacy) collaborate and take turns teaching each other. This workshop is a chance to work with some of these teachers-teachers to develop strategies for learning. The four tools provided include: The Writing Lab: Using multiple writing practices building and support our students' writing development. The Teaching-Based Writing: Using creative writing approaches such as the “one question a day” model to build writing competency. The Developing Academic Writing: Using the “one paragraph at a time” approach to develop writing competence. Using the “One Question a Day” Writing Activity: Writing a letter to your child about her first book purchase! (Please see below for the list of questions to ask as a team in the workshop.
