This program is designed to assist new nurses enter the field of Critical Care Nursing by providing all the required knowledge, skills and assessments for certification as an RN, NPS, CP, CPC, CCS Nor HIP in New Brunswick. The program requires an initial 1,500 hours of pre-approved work experience to ensure a level of competency to meet the Canadian Nursing Certification exam requirements. Students must complete the program with a minimum of 90% minimum, in order to be eligible to obtain their Registered Nursing Certificate from the Board of Nursing in New Brunswick. The RN, NPS and CCS are eligible for a three-year certificate if they have completed their first two years of undergraduate nursing programs, or an RN, NPS or CCS with a cumulative average of at least 100. In either case it is expected that this student will make all required courses from the initial 1,500 hours of work experience necessary to become a licensed RN or CPC in New Brunswick. The certificate program is offered in collaboration with the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton and the University of Ottawa in Ottawa (Ontario). Students are enrolled at the beginning of their third year and continue to work towards certification over a three to four-year period in order to qualify for a degree. The certificate programs require the student to obtain a passing grade on a cumulative average of at least 85 on the examinations with an average of 75% or higher. To obtain a teaching certificate within the RN, NPS, and CCS Certification program one must complete six semester hours of professional development in one of the following areas: Academic Skills & Practice. Certification of Competencies Career Planning Career Development Nursing Education and Research Professional Career Development Residency and Staffing Patient Safety or Education The New Brunswick Critical Care Nursing program is currently only offered in Fredericton, but this program will become available for all students in New Brunswick in 2019. The application process will remain open for the 2019 and 2020 programs. The application will be open from March 1, 2018, to March 3, 2018.
