After that date or from the date of acceptance of these applications, no other permit application will be accepted or processed unless another muzzleloader-only permit is available. If any applicant who applied for a muzzleloader-only permit has applied for more than one of the handgun-only permits, there will be no exceptions. Firearm permit applicants will not be asked to pay the difference between a standard fee and the muzzle loader fee. The fee for a shotgun-only permit is 80.00. If you require a fee waiver, please ask a ranger when applying for the permit. If you are applying for a muzzleloader-only permit, you can obtain your permit by mailing the application to the Illinois State Rifle and Pistol Association, 50 N. Green Street, Chicago, IL 60654 or by visiting their website at , where you will find more extensive information on the application process. The Illinois State Rifle & Pistol Association is not responsible for any fees that you may have paid to another state or U.S. territory for the same firearm or muzzle loader. In order to use the Illinois permit system, you must apply in person at the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Bureau of Firearms, 100 E. Chicago Way in Chicago and submit all necessary paperwork including the Illinois handgun safety certificate at the same time you apply for the permit. You may also obtain Illinois handguns, suppressors and other accessories at various locations throughout the state (see links on this page.) Muzzle loaders must be registered in the area where they are being used in order to receive the Illinois permit. You must obtain a local Illinois permit number for the muzzle loader, and you must register it with the local permit bureau. If you are unable to obtain a permit in Illinois or to register the muzzle loader with the local permit bureau, you can also mail or deliver a copy of the muzzle loader registration form to the Illinois State Rifle & Pistol Association in Chicago, 50 N. Green Street, Chicago, IL 60654. If you purchase a muzzle loader from a licensed dealer in Illinois, the Illinois permit number does not need to be on the weapon. But you must still include the license or other proof of licensure when submitting the application for the permit from your dealer to the Bureau of Firearms. All the information on the application must be submitted in duplicate, except with regard to the age of the applicant.
