Since this system does not include any software for a commercial business, the project is funded to be completed by a University of Darmstadt (German Research Academy) project (GAS). The goal is to bring together experts of several disciplines, namely, computer science, information technology and mathematics, in order to develop a general technical specification for a Java library system. It is hoped that the project will allow the development of a Java language library that does not only make it possible to access an Internet database, but also gives the user the feeling of working with a well-thought-out library system. 2 Preliminarily, the project is focused on the following areas: — Library implementation design and implementation — Technical specification for Java programming — Programming style and the implementation of the various interfaces — A list of all types and subtypes of Java classes — An abstract approach for Java programming (in the form of Java classes) — Java API specification — Basic library system — Basic Java application development and testing — Application of the project to the general software development in Germany 3 Requirements For further information see the homepage. 4 1 This specification may be distributed. For reasons of technical secrecy it should never be redistributed to the public. This document may be copied with a copyright notice. Any changes to this document will be published in the working Draft. 3 The draft specification may serve as an indication of where further work is needed. 4 Reference Manuals: The following reference manuals are available under the Creative Commons license: — “Java™ Object System Development Kit, Version 6.0” (Tutorial) by James Gosling — “The Java Language Specification, Version 1.
