DEFINITIONS: A beneficiary is any individual, person or organization, or other entity entitled to receive monies under the provisions of this act, or any combination thereof, if they are designated for receiving monies under this act. The term “deadly force” means all force and violence whether used or threatened on the seas or on land, and includes any armed attack, fire, attack, threat, and a person's imminent flight or hiding. The term “missing pay” means pay not claimed or paid to the claimant or to other persons, including survivors' benefit, survivors' benefits of dependents or survivors' benefits of dependents, and, in the case of survivors' benefits, disability claims. All monies not claimed within a fixed period after the occurrence of a certain event, such as capture, are paid to the claimant. The term “pay” means any monetary compensation or benefits, such as disability pay, or unemployment benefits. The term “payee” means the military payee or military compensation fund manager designated under this act. Payees must submit a completed payee form to an area commander, who must enter that information into the Payee Processing System prior to assigning the payee to the Area Payee Command or the Payee Processing Command for pay or other benefits or payments. The term “service” means any service that is classified as a separate Paying Service under the Federal Personnel Act [50 USC App. 3a-4b]. The term “service member” means a person who serves as a member of either the full-time or uniformed service; active duty; or inactive duty under an order issued under the authority of the president or vice president: The term “service member” also means any person covered by a military retirement program established under Chapter 15 of Title 5, United States Code. The term “Service”; also, “Military”, “military personnel”, “military reserve”. The term “service-connected injury” or “service-connected disability” as defined in section 1471 of this title [50 USC App. 3145] or under the law providing for payment of a disability and disability survivor benefits under section 1331 of this title [53 USC 531 note]. The term “service-connected death” as defined in section 1326 of this title [13 USC 2541]; including, as appropriate, the term “service-connected death due to combat”.
