Her first tournament director assignment was the Summer 2001 North American Bridge Championships at the Waukegan Convention Center. She began the tour at the 2003 Fall Classic in Atlanta and has led every event that has come next, including a stint leading a pair of ABCs, the 2008 Summer Classic in Tampa and the 2012 North American Championship in Las Vegas. “I'm a bridge girl,” Beyer says. “I love playing the bridge game more than I enjoy other things. I enjoy the time, the competition. We play the same amount of hours on the bridge every day, plus another hour for breakfast. The bridge is always my first break. We all get that. When we get together as a family to play bridge it makes me feel like I have a brother.” ? The best of the best: Highlights from the last four years In order to prepare for this story, I called to several ABC Directors, as did a few fellow bridge players, to get their take on the players they're most proud of and where they rank among their peers. Beyer and Lintier first came up for air in the middle of the last decade when they worked together for a few tournaments each year from 1998-99 to 2000-01. Their stories have evolved over the last four years too. Beyer joined ABC in 2005 and took over the top spot with her second tour. Lintier started as an ABC organizer in 2000 but is most known for his contributions with the “New Bridge Players.” He was the driving force behind their creation in 2007, when bridge players were seeking a more inclusive game that allowed both new and old to explore different angles of play. Lintier and Beyer are the founders of ABC Champions, which serves as a hub for bridge in North America: the premier competition for competitive players in North America. In addition to their work for ABC, they are also involved with the American National Bridge Association. ?
