Students should also be able to understand the reasons why the practice of genetic engineering may not be a good idea. Many parents and scientists who support genetic engineering believe it will improve the food supply and reduce the need for agricultural chemicals. The problems with incorporating genes into organisms in the way that has been proposed can lead to organisms with undesirable characteristics and even dangerous effects.
