Associated phenotypic differences between the MHC classes were revealed through phenotypic analysis of blood group (Hg) and immunoglobulin (IG) C alleles. A total of 476 reptiles from 4 different species were screened and, for 48 individuals, three MHC class II individuals were selected for further analysis. Heterozygous animals that had no detectable IGA or Egg (LGA-, Hub- and Hoc-) at the MHC class II locus exhibited the highest in-group mating success. MHC class II alleles showed a different pattern of phenotypic variation, being more common in those with IGC+ and Egg+ at the class II locus (p=0.0001 and p=0.0007, respectively), while IGC(+) individuals were more often heterozygous (p=0.0328 and p=0.0336, respectively). These results indicate that MHC class II alleles influence mating success and are related to the degree of immunoglobulin expression. .
