Hello collegiate cyber defense competition competitors I'm Jim Boardman from the Palo Alto Networks cybersecurity Academy and this is the first of a two-part video series covering the threat environment that you typically see at a CCC competition whether it's regional or Nationals and the best practices you can employ to configure the firewall to mitigate some of these threats so part 1 which we're in right now I plan to talk about the threat environment part-2 I'm going to cover these topics, and I'm gonna talk about best practices so what bet what are how can I employ the best practices configure my firewall to mitigate some of the threats I'm going to see in a typical CCC competition so a little about the cybersecurity Academy this our cybersecurity Academy we train instructors on our security operating platform we provide a curriculum via our Academy Moodle we provide our virtual firewall appliance fully licensed for Academy labs, and we also have structured labs that we provide via network development groups and that lab plus appliance, and we do all of this for free being is my favorite word as I always tell my kids and a little background about myself is before I join the palatal network cybersecurity cap Academy I taught at Alfred State College I taught cybersecurity and networking I was also a chair and that's where I became familiar with a Palo Alto Networks Academy program we were one of the first to join the Palo Alto Networks Academy program first colleges in New York State and also was at Alfred State College I coached several teams from 2010 to 2015 that competed at the Northeast collegiate cyber defense competition, so I have some experience in preparing for CCBC competitions and this has this is reason why I'm the project lead for providing support for CCC competitions and last year Palo Alto Networks provided we provided or allowed all the regional competitions to use our hardware firewall appliance which is the PA 30 50 we allowed them to use this deploys and these allow them to issue them to teams to defend their networks, and we also allowed all regionals and the Nationals to allow teams to deploy are fully licensed virtual firewall appliance also defend their networks as a matter of fact kind of cool in the northeast collegiate cyber defense competition they allowed their teams to use our VM 100 firewall appliance to defend their networks in the public cloud so this year we're going to provide the same level of support in terms of firewall appliances we're going to allow all the regionals to use our hardware firewall appliance to deploy to their team, so they can defend their network, so we're going to allow all regionals and the Nationals to use our virtual firewall appliance also again that allow them to deploy them to their teams those teams can use them to defend their networks last year at the Nationals they use both our hardware firewall appliance and our virtual firewall appliance and all the competitions all the...
