All proceeds we receive from our members and their friends and families make our program possible. We are an association of experienced MAPS volunteers who wish to share their skills with others. We are not an organization of medical professionals, and we welcome MAPS volunteers who are not licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, or clinical psychotherapists. Our Mission: MAPS (Mountain, Spirit, and Prefrontal Nerves Research Institute) is dedicated to the discovery of the psychedelic neuropsychopharmacological potential of lyric acid dimethylamine (LSD) and other hallucinogens. We seek to understand and translate the psychological insights gained from ayahuasca-like experiences into new types of psychotherapy tools and to develop, through the cooperation of governmental and professional organizations, the infrastructure necessary to conduct controlled clinical studies of these drugs. MAPS members use this expertise to provide access to the non-commercial use of psychedelic drugs in clinical research in psychiatric and medical settings. The MAPS program is an active, ongoing research effort to discover the psychobiological underpinnings of altered states of consciousness, which are potentially of tremendous therapeutic benefit. MAPS's mission is to inform the scientific, psychological, and social communities about the potential therapeutic potential of psychedelics. Its research has led to the discovery of brain mechanisms involved in the psychedelic state. It seeks to explore human behavior and develop scientific tools to support it in a safe, supportive, and responsible manner. The MAPS research community includes medical and psychological researchers, therapists, scientists, religious, spiritual, social, and educational leaders, and concerned citizens. MAPS has been supporting such groups as the Beckley Foundation, the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS-MPS), and the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS-SIS). The MAPS board offers a variety of opportunities to volunteer, including a fellowship and fellowships; workshops, lectures and conferences; and the opportunity to serve on a committee. We also host a monthly fellowship. MAPS has grown into a worldwide membership organization, including chapters in Spain, Spain & Portugal, China, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
