The first section of the course was designed by the Department of Health Care Science to complement a Health, Health Care Practitioner Competency Assessment. A Health Care Practitioner Competency Assessment is a tool to help guide you in the identification, assessment, and evaluation of your understanding of the responsibilities of the profession in the health care settings. The Health Care Professional Competency Assessment was developed to help you understand and address your competencies within our health care system including the health care system for the following groups of physicians, physicians assistants, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists (CAST) and other health professionals: nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, physician assistants, physician assistants and nursing professionals. The purpose of the first section was to assist in your preparation for this assessment. The second section of the course will help you to improve your understanding of our health care system, including how to provide appropriate health services to your patients. You will be able to diagnose and recommend appropriate health services to your patients based on your training and understanding of the responsibilities within the health care system. You will be able to evaluate their health needs. Furthermore, you will be given an example of a patient who seeks professional guidance and will receive and understand feedback to guide this process. Furthermore, you will be able to develop and apply skills in the following specific areas: health services delivery, health planning, health data collection/management, patient assessment, management of health problems, patient consultation and treatment, health education, patient and family support, and other clinical responsibilities and activities. The third section of the course will help develop your basic knowledge of patient assessment and your ability to provide appropriate services based on this basic knowledge. A summary course will focus on the most important concepts/techniques that must be considered for the delivery of health services. The fourth section of the course will consist of several lectures and laboratory activities related to the first two sections of the course. Lectures will address the concepts/techniques described in the lectures. Lectures will include specific examples, discussions, and simulations. Activities in the course will include several labs for you to engage and explore a variety of topics. The objective of these labs will be to help you learn to use your health professions skills. These activities will be focused on two areas in your training: patient assessment and service execution.
