The CNC invites faculty from diverse fields of study and disciplines to participate in the Summer Institute to learn the practical techniques of building consensus and the principles of conflict management as they apply to the classroom. It is a non-credit course designed to improve students' understanding of how negotiations work, how to construct a resolution to a disagreement, and how to prevent disputes from developing. We invite students, faculty, and students in interdisciplinary graduate and undergraduate programs to attend this year's Summer Institute on Peace and Conflict Management (CNC P22). The summer program will have 12 sessions, with each session a little different. At the beginning of each session, there will be a brief explanation of the concept of conflict and why it arises in the first place. Then there will be a session on the components of a negotiation. Then there will be a session on the negotiation process. Then there will be a session on the techniques of constructing a resolution to a dispute. Then there will be a session on the principles of negotiation. After this, we will be going to some field trips, and the next session will be our final one. We will have lunch, then go to some other area for talks and discussions. This year, we will be starting with a workshop titled “An Introduction to Peace and Conflict Management and Conflict Resolution.” There will be two sessions on the topic, one with students and faculty and the other with students and faculty and students from different fields of study. We will be looking at peace, the nature of conflict, conflict management, the principles of negotiation, and the role of conflict mediation. We will also be having several readings and discussions. Registration is open through December 11. There is no minimum requirements to enroll in this program, except that you must have a university-level college degree. You must be registered for this program at your college, university, or other educational institution. Participants must be a U.S. citizen. You are responsible for providing a credit card number or a valid U.S. passport. You must bring your own laptop computer, as we will be using theirs.
