Make to Assemble (MTA) is a manufacturing strategy whereby the manufacturer creates or obtains all of the components of its products but does not assemble the product until a customer places an order.
MTO (Make to Order) is a manufacturing process in which manufacturing starts only after a customer's order is received. Forms of MTO vary, for example, an assembly process starts when demand actually occurs or manufacturing starts with development planning.
Design to Order. Design to Order is a manufacturing approach in which the individual parts are designed and assembled specifically for each customer order. Even if the end product contains standard parts, a separate production process with a specific parts list is required for the product.
The processes of make-to-order and make-to-stock are similar at first sight.
