How much you get depends on the extent of your disability and the amount of care you need. If you get Constant Attendance Allowance, you cannot get Attendance Allowance as well. But you may be able to get a top up to Constant Attendance Allowance.
Your eligibility you're 16 or over. you spend at least 35 hours a week caring for someone. you've been in England, Scotland or Wales for at least 2 of the last 3 years (this does not apply if you're a refugee or have humanitarian protection status)
To get the Carer element you will need to report the following information about your caring responsibilities, for example: the name of the person you care for. their date of birth. their National Insurance number. any disability benefits they receive or have applied for. the number of hours a week you spend caring for them.
You get an extra amount of Universal Credit called a 'carer element' if you're eligible for Carer's Allowance – even if you don't apply for Carer's Allowance. You can get an extra amount called a 'Carers' Premium' or 'Carers' Addition' added to any of the following benefits if you get Carer's Allowance: Pension Credit.
Carer's allowance is treated as income for UC (and other means-tested benefits), and will be deducted from your UC, so the backdated payment means that your UC has been overpaid. However, the carer's element, £163.73 a month, should now be added to your UC and backdated to the date that the carer's allowance started.
