What do you like best? I love that you can store your signature in the program. Also much more professional look over using a pen to fill forms. What do you dislike? The extra level of security when logging in slows you down a little. Its probably actually a good thing as your forms are stored in the system. Recommendations to others considering the product: I have tried to figure out ways to fill pdfs without signing on to this system, it was a foolish waste of time. I am not the type of person that signs on to programs like this, I always felt like they were scams. I am so very happy with this program, I wish that I had signed up for this much sooner. Use Form 8917 (Rev. January 2020) to figure and take the deduction for tuition and fees expenses paid in calendar years 2018, 2019, and 2020, and later years if the deduction is extended. This deduction is based on adjusted qualified education expenses paid to an eligible educational institution (postsecondary).
Who Can Use Form 8917? According to IRS rules, you may be eligible to use Form 8917 if you, your spouse or a dependent claimed on your tax return was enrolled in a qualified educational institution in the relevant tax year. “Qualified” means the institution must be an institute of higher learning.
To be eligible for AOTC, the student must: Be pursuing a degree or other recognized education credential. Be enrolled at least half time for at least one academic period* beginning in the tax year. Not have finished the first four years of higher education at the beginning of the tax year.
Qualifying expenses include what you pay in tuition and mandatory enrollment fees to attend any accredited public or private institution above the high school level. You cannot take a deduction for: Room and board, optional fees (such as for student health insurance), transportation, or other similar personal expenses.
The taxpayer, spouse or dependent has received or will receive a Form 1098-T from an eligible domestic or foreign education institution. If the college isn't required to send Form 1098-T, the taxpayer must be able to demonstrate they were enrolled at the college and paid for qualified expenses.
Use Schedule D (Form 1040) to report the following: The sale or exchange of a capital asset not reported on another form or schedule. Gains from involuntary conversions (other than from casualty or theft) of capital assets not held for business or profit.
