The FMCSA requires all motor carriers to update their Motor Carrier Identification Report (MCS-150) every 24 months – but as a participant in PRISM, Wisconsin and many other states now require this to be updated when renewing your IRP plates (every year).
To view a company's current information, go to the SAFER System's Company Snapshot. Updates can be done online via the FMCSA online registration system with your US DOT PIN, or by filing an MCS-150 form.
If an MCS-150 form falls out of date, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration could deactivate the carriers' USDOT number, and the company could face penalties of up to $1,000 per day, not to exceed $10,000.
The MCS-150 is the basic description of your operation to the USDOT. This form helps the FMCSA track several important metrics relating to carriers and describes, in general, their business operations.
So, how do I determine when the last time my MCS-150 was updated? One easy way is to go to the FMCSA safer website. Enter your DOT # then look at your company snapshot. You will see your “FMCSA Form Date” on the left side of the report.
If you don't update your MCS-150 form, your USDOT number will be deactivated and you could be faced with a $1,000 fee per day up to $10,000. Note: You will be charged this fee even if none of your business information has changed within the past two years.
