I love that I am able to correct and hold prior to sending out my file for signature. I wish I could however have a authorization statement from the Calyx Point file to use more of there forms.

1) Heat to above non-magnetic (1400-1600F) and hold it there for a few minutes. Cool to black (below 900F) and quench in water. 2) Heat to just below non-magnetic (about 1200-1300F) and hold there for a few minutes. Cool to black and quench in water.
A full annealing provides a relatively soft, ductile material free of internal stresses. Process annealing, sometimes referred to as stress relief, is carried out at temperatures below the lower critical temperature. This treatment is used to improve the ductility and decrease residual stresses in work-hardened steel.
Full anneal The material is then allowed to cool very slowly so that the equilibrium microstructure is obtained. In most cases this means the material is allowed to furnace cool (the furnace is turned off and the steel is let cool down inside) but in some cases it is air cooled.
Annealing Gold, Silver, and Platinum. Annealing is a process, which eliminates the stresses created during mechanical working or deformation of an alloy, so that the material can be restored to maximum softness.
In the case of ferrous metals, such as steel, annealing is performed by heating the material (generally until glowing) for a while and then slowly letting it cool to room temperature in still air. Copper, silver and brass can be either cooled slowly in air, or quickly by quenching in water.
You do not have to quench it, but quenching also helps blow off some of the oxide that forms during annealing.
Quenching brass in water does NOT harden the brass. Brass work hardens due to sizing and firing etc. That is why the brass cracks after multiple firings and loading if they have not been annealed. The necks tend to crack most as that is the area that is worked most during reloading.
Place the steel in a heat treat oven or forge and slowly raise the temperature of the steel to its particular austenite region. Hold the steel at the austenite temperature for at least 30 minutes. Lower the temperature of the steel slowly. Cool the steel to room temperature and machine as needed.
This simple act, if heated to an exact temperature range, can create a more pure, hard metal. It's often used to create steel that is stronger than annealing the metal, but also creates a less ductile product. So, heat can indeed make metal weaker. However, there are many processes where metal is strengthened by heat.
