Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Annealing is a heat treatment process which alters the microstructure of a material to change its mechanical or electrical properties. Typically, in steels, annealing is used to reduce hardness, increase ductility and help eliminate internal stresses.
Annealing. In general, the main purpose of annealing heat treatment is to soften the steel, regenerate overheated steel structures or just remove internal tensions. It basically consists of heating to austenitizing temperature (800ºC and 950ºC depending on the type of steel), followed by slow cooling.

Annealing. Annealing, treatment of a metal or alloy by heating to a predetermined temperature, holding for a certain time, and then cooling to room temperature to improve ductility and reduce brittleness. Annealing is also done for relief of internal stresses.
Annealing. 2. Introduction Annealing, in metallurgy and materials science, is a heat treatment that alters a material to increase its ductility and to make it more workable. It involves heating material to above its critical temperature, maintaining a suitable temperature, and then cooling.

It basically consists of heating to austenitizing temperature (800ºC and 950ºC depending on the type of steel), followed by slow cooling.
What's the difference between annealing and tempering? Annealing involves heating steel to a specified temperature and then cooling at a very slow and controlled rate, whereas tempering involves heating the metal to a precise temperature below the critical point, and is often done in air, vacuum or inert atmospheres.
The main difference between annealing hardening and tempering is that annealing is done to soften a metal or an alloy and hardening is done to increase the hardness of a metal or alloy whereas tempering is done to reduce the brittleness of quenched metal or alloy.

Tempering. Tempering, in metallurgy, process of improving the characteristics of a metal, especially steel, by heating it to a high temperature, though below the melting point, then cooling it, usually in air. The process has the effect of toughening by lessening brittleness and reducing internal stresses.

Annealing / Normalizing. Annealing is a heat treatment process which alters the microstructure of a material to change its mechanical or electrical properties. Typically, in steels, annealing is used to reduce hardness, increase ductility and help eliminate internal stresses.
Annealing consists of heating a metal to a suitable temperature and holding it there, followed by cooling at a suitable rate. It is used to soften but also to produce desired changes in other properties in microstructure. A full annealing provides a relatively soft, ductile material free of internal stresses.
Annealing involves heating steel to a specified temperature and then cooling at a very slow and controlled rate. Annealing is commonly used to: Soften a metal for cold working. Improve machinability.
Full anneal The material is then allowed to cool very slowly so that the equilibrium microstructure is obtained. In most cases this means the material is allowed to furnace cool (the furnace is turned off and the steel is let cool down inside) but in some cases it is air cooled.
