All good. However it would be nice to be able to move the type up and down when placed on the page rather than have to keep placing the type symbol in a spot where you think it will fit on the line.

The mix-blend-mode property can be used to mix together any element with its backdrop. For example, you can mix text with whatever (images, for example) it overlaps with, images with other images, a fixed header with the scrolling content of the page, etc.
To use a Layer Blending mode, you need to have a document with at least two layers present. At the top of the Layers palette, you'll see an option that says Normal. Click the drop-down menu to see all the available modes. Select one of the modes to see the result in your document window.
Blend modes (or mixing modes) in digital image editing and computer graphics are used to determine how two layers are blended with each other. The default blend mode in most applications is simply to obscure the lower layer by covering it with whatever is present in the top layer (see alpha compositing).
In this tutorial, we'll focus on Photoshop's five most important blend modes, which are Multiply, Screen, Overlay, Color, and Luminosity. Even though Photoshop includes 22 others, these five blend modes are the ones you'll use the most.
They Multiply Blend Mode In Photoshop. Photoshop takes the colors from the layer that's set to the Multiply blend mode and multiplies them by the colors on the layer(s) below it, then divides them by 255 to give us the result.
Create an empty layer above both of your layers, select down all of them (empty, blended layer with texture and bottom layer with color), press CTRL + E (or via menu Layer Merge Down). You can select the layers you'd like to merge, and choose Layer Merge Layers (or press E).
Using the background-blend-mode property, you can blend the background layers (images and color) of an element. The property takes one or more blend modes as a value this value specifies the formula used to blend or mix the colors of the background image with the color or other background images behind it.
The mix-blend-mode property is used to blend the colors of an element and its backdrop. If you want to blend an element's background images together, you can use the background-blend-mode property.
