A notice period is the amount of time an employee has to give from the time he decides to quit until he actually stops working. In this context, since it is on your job application, the company is asking how much notice you need to give your current employer before you actually stop your current job.
The notice period is the time period between the receipt of the letter of dismissal and the end of the last working day. This time period has to be given to an employee by their employer before their employment ends.
Statutory notice is the minimum legal notice that can be given. Employers should give the employee: two weeks' notice if the employee has been employed by the employer continuously for two years, and one additional week's notice for each further complete year of continuous employment, up to a maximum of 12 weeks.
Notice period is beneficial for both employers and employees. Notice Period helps an employee, in case he/she is fired, to look for a job within the 90 days. Sometimes, the employer pays the salary in lieu of notice period and asks the employee to leave immediately.
Typical notice periods are 1 month or 1 week. Employee notice periods are determined by the contract of employment and the law. Organisations typically ask employees who have been in their jobs for more than two years to work one month's notice, via the employment contract.
Incase the employee don't serve the complete notice period then the one month salary would be divided by 30 days and multiplied by the number of days to be recovered. Dear Sowmya, Notice pay is your basic salary or (Basic+DA). In some companies however it is calculated on Basic+HRA.
