In general, signatures have two elements, a “prefix” with its corresponding fingerprint, and the rest of the signature, whose signature components are all concatenated to form the final signature. Let's take a quick step back and look at the data structure to store fingerprints: struct Fingerprint { char fingerprint[8]; } The signature itself is just a sequence of elements: struct Signature { string fingerprint; string public Key; }; The fingerprint may be stored as two elements, first an array of eight bytes of a “prefix”, which is used to identify a particular fingerprint pattern when being compared; and then an array of eight bytes of a “fingerprint”, which is the full signature. To build a “fingerprint” signature, we can use C's signature_to_prefix function: return Signature ((SIG_PRIVATE)(SIG_DEREF 0), ((SIG_PUBLIC)(SIG_DEREF 1), (SIG_VERIFY)(SIG_DEREF 2), ((SIG_CHECKSIG)(SIG_DEREF 3), (SIG_VERIFY_FAILURE 4), ((SIG_CHECKSIG_FLAG)(SIG_DEREF 5)), ((SIG_CHECKSIG_FLAG_PRIVATE 6), (PADLOCK 7), sig_deref_8, sig_deref_1, sig_checkflag_8, sig_checkflag_1, (NULL 8))[0]); Note I haven't bothered to make an array to store the public key of a particular fingerprint, it's probably more complicated than we want to deal with and there's only so many places the fingerprint can appear.. Signatures are a very important part of documents, and in some situations you actually need to ensure that the signatories of a document have actually signed it. Some people who create documents also know how important signatures are, and they need to have a simple, quick way to create signatures that meet all their needs. Of course, a more accurate way to handle this is to write 'with my signature' on the documents, but this gets pretty much impossible when the signature part is the real signature of the person signing and the document itself doesn't have a real signature part to it. To make a signature as a result of signature making you use a computer program (which can also sign a document itself) and you use a paper and ink to create the signature..
