The time management matrix will help you identify what you really spend your time on. Covey, it's based on the the idea that all your time is spent in a four quadrant matrix. You can't change the size of this matrix -- that's the time that you have.
This creates the matrix illustrated above with four quadrants: Important and Urgent Crises and Emergencies. Important but Not Urgent Prevention, Planning, and Improvement. Not Important but Urgent Interruptions and Busy Work.
Stephen Covey's Time Management Matrix Explained. Covey's matrix allows you to organize your priorities much better than before. The idea of using four quadrants to determine the priority of a task was introduced by American keynote speaker Stephen Covey, author of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.
Effective people spend more time in Quadrant II, minimize the time spent in Quadrant I, and do not worry too much about Quadrants III and IV. In Quadrant II (important, but not urgent things) lies the heart of effective personal management.
