Select the cells where you want to restrict data entry. On the Data tab, click Data Validation > Data Validation. In the Allow box, select the type of data you want to allow, and fill in the limiting criteria and values.
First, select all the cells you want to restrict. Switch over to the Data tab on the Ribbon, and then click the Data Validation button. If your window isn't full size and you can't see the labels, it's the icon with two horizontal boxes, a green check mark, and a red crossed circle.
Click the cell you want to restrict value for. Go to Data -> Validation. The Data Validation dialog box opens. In the Allow dropdown select List. In the Source text box enter Yes,No. Note: This will also work for more than two possible options. simply separate additional desired options with a comma.
You can then apply Data Validation to that cell, to restrict user input, for example to a list. As long as you apply them in that sequence (formula first, then DV), then Excel will let you do it. The formula will calculate correctly, even if the result is not an allowable input as far as DV is concerned.
Limit Rows and Columns with Hiding Rows and Columns #1 click the row 5 to select the entire row. #2 press Shift + Ctrl + Down Arrow keys in your keyboard, to select all rows from row 5 to the bottom of the worksheet. #3 right click on the selected rows and choose Hide from the popup menu list.
Open Excel and choose a Blank workbook. Select additional cells in the column you'd like to add validation restrictions for. Click the Data tab at the top of the page. Click the Data Validation icon, and select the top option, Data Validation. In the Allow drop-down, select Whole number.
