A letter of recommendation for medical school should fill at least one entire page (usually 400 600 words) and contain an introduction, up to 4 body paragraphs, and a conclusion. If the letter is being submitted by mail or fax, it should also include a standard letterhead.
Ask the student for academic information. Address your letter accordingly. Introduce yourself and your qualifications. Include details about your academic relationship with the student. Highlight the student's qualifications with examples. Conclude your letter.

Schools also look for evidence that an applicant has demonstrated good judgment, compassion, and selflessness qualities every physician should embody. Applicants can show evidence through their involvement in extracurricular activities, letters of evaluation, and their personal statement.

Keep in mind that applicants generally have some flavor of the following in their applications: community service, research experience and/or publications, leadership experiences, medical exposure (shadowing or work-related), and extracurricular activities.
