State Oversize/Overweight Load Permit Contacts To obtain State permits, you will need to contact the State(s) in which you wish to travel. See below for the State permitting web site, or contact the State permitting office by telephone.
State Regulations and Overwidth Permits Fees for permits are determined by the nature of the load and vary from state to state. Fees range from as little as $15.00 to more than $70 for the same basic load, depending on the state. There may also be a fee of approximately $15.00 to process the application.
"Oversize Load" signs and flags required for all over width and over length permit loads. Signs should be mounted at front bumper and at rear of load. Oversize and/or overmass (OSOM) vehicles and loads. A vehicle or vehicle combination is considered to be OSOM if it exceeds any general access mass or dimension limits. Typical examples include: Agricultural machines such as harvesters and grain augers.
What is a OSOM load-carrying Vehicle? An Oversize Overmass (OSOM) vehicle is a heavy vehicle that is carrying, or specially designed to carry, a large indivisible item.
Oversize covers everything from over height, over width, over weight, over length. Wide Load is just another name for the over width loads.
In general, the maximum legal load width is 8.5 feet (102 inches), and the maximum height limit is also 102 inches. Legal length is typically 48 to 53 feet, and the maximum weight is about 46,000 pounds. Some trucks may be able to scale heavier, but 46,000 pounds is usually the standard.
