”Watermarking” is the process of hiding digital information in a carrier signal. The hidden information should, but does not need to, contain a relation to the carrier signal. Digital watermarks may be used to verify the authenticity or integrity of the carrier signal or to show the identity of its owners.
A digital watermark is a kind of marker covertly embedded in a noise-tolerant signal such as audio, video or image data. “Watermarking” is the process of hiding digital information in a carrier signal. The hidden information should, but does not need to, contain a relation to the carrier signal.
Watermarks can be embedded in the pixel domain or a transform domain. In multimedia applications, embedded watermarks should be invisible, robust and have a high capacity. Digital watermarking is an effective technique for protecting Intellectual Property (IP) rights by embedding information in digital multimedia data.
Commonly used transform domain methods are Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), and Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT). It is generally used for the signal processing. In this we transform the image into the frequency domain.
There are two types of digital watermarking, visible and invisible. A visible watermark on a file or image is very similar to a corporation's logo on its letterhead. It is basically a semi- transparent identifier (i.e. logo) that is used to show the ownership of the file or image.
Watermark. A watermark is a logo, text, or pattern that is intentionally superimposed onto another image. Its purpose is to make it more difficult for the original image to be copied or used without permission.
Originally a watermark is a more or less transparent image or text that has been applied to a piece of paper, another image to either protect the original image, or to make it harder to copy the item e.g. money watermarks or stamp watermarks.
A watermark may use your company's name, your personal name, or your logo. Again, the watermark itself is not a copyright. Your work is already protected by copyright the moment it is created and the watermark can serve as a reminder to others not to steal your images because you are copyright protected.
