The system worked very nicely overall. I have uploaded several documents now and found it very nice for completing PDF and Pre-made fillable Word documents as well. I only had one minor glitch the first time I used it, but have not seen it repeated in several usages since. Overall I would definitely recommend this if you have to regularly fill and edit forms.

All soils undergo elastic settlement. Elastic settlement is immediate and much higher in sandy soils than in clay soils. ... It shows that the elastic modulus of clay soils is significantly higher than the elastic modulus of sandy soils and provides an example to find the immediate elastic settlement of a given foundation.
Primary Consolidation. It is defined as the process in which the soil volume decreases. ... Here, e 0 is the initial void ratio, c is the consolidation settlement, are the final and initial vertical stress and H is the compressible soil height.
Secondary consolidation is compression that occurs in a soil after the completion of primary consolidation. From: Soil Improvement and Ground Modification Methods, 2015.
To distinguish between the two mechanisms, "primary consolidation" refers to consolidation due to dissipation of excess water pressure, while "secondary consolidation" refers to the creep process.
Clay and Organic soil are most prone to consolidation settlement. Consolidation is the process of reduction in volume due to expulsion of water under an increased load. It is a time related process occurring in saturated soil by draining water from void.
15 One-Dimensional Laboratory Consolidation Test. The main purpose of consolidation test is to obtain soil properties which are used in predicting the rate and amount of consolidation settlement of structures founded on clay.
Settlement in a structure refers to the distortion or disruption of parts of a building due to. unequal compression of its foundations; shrinkage, such as that which occurs in timber-framed buildings as the frame adjusts its moisture content; or. undue loads being applied to the building after its initial construction.
Ground Settlement and subsidence. In geotechnical engineering , settlement is defined as the vertical movement of the ground, generally caused be changes in stresses within the earth. ... Settlement is most likely to occur when increased vertical stresses are applied to the ground on or above soft or loose soil strata.
Water twice a day. Set a timer on your foundation and sprinkler system so that it waters every day at dusk and dawn for 30 minutes. ... Drain water away from house. Don't allow water to collect near the house. ... Implement proper grading. ... Plant trees and shrubs away from your home. ... Maintain moisture levels. ... Embed the foundation.
coefficient of volume compressibility. The compression of a clay (aquitard) per unit thickness, due to a unit increase of effective stress, in the load range exceeding preconsolidation stress. It is expressed by the equation in which e0 is the initial void ratio. Units are usually cm2/kg [21].
