I'm still on the learning curve. Would like to have a way to erase large sections of a page, not just strips of it. If there is such a way, I haven't yet discovered that.

Open the Word document you want to print and select the File tab. Select Print. By default, the paper size of the document defaults to the paper size of the printed output. Select the Paper size drop-down arrow and choose the output you prefer.
You can change the unit of measurement displayed on the rulers, to do this: Go to Word > Preferences > General (under Authoring and Proofing Tools). In Show measurement in units of, select the unit of measurement you want to use.
On the Format menu, click Document > Page Setup. Select a paper size from the Paper Size list, and then click OK. On the Document page, on the Apply to list, click Selected text, and then click OK.
Go to File > Options > Save. Under Preserve fidelity when saving this document, do either of the following: Make sure that Embed fonts in the file is not selected. If you do embed fonts, select Embed only the characters used in the document (best for reducing file size) and Do not embed common system fonts.
Avoid embedded fonts Another reason Word files may get very large is because of font embedding. Users may embed fonts if they are using a non-standard font and plan to open the file on a device that does not have the font installed.
Compress Word Files Online Drag and drop your Word file into the document compressor. Choose “Basic compression.” We'll reduce the file size and change it to PDF format. Download the file and then convert it back to Word format. The file should now be in a much smaller size—don't forget to download it!
