Normal reproductive system functioning: White discharge before your period is a normal part of the menstrual cycle. Normal discharge at this stage of your cycle is sometimes called egg white mucus, because of its thin, stretchy, and slippery texture. This discharge is also odorless.
Seborrhea is normal when you're experiencing major changes in hormones like estrogen, so you might notice more of this discharge around the time of ovulation or early in pregnancy. This white discharge is not normal if it comes with itching or odor.
The discharge you are having is normal as long as you don't have any itching or odor with it. It's natural to have a white discharge that can be thin to thick white or clear before you get your first period. It means that your body is making hormones and your uterus (womb) is getting read to have periods.
What Does Early Pregnancy Discharge Look Like? After you become pregnant, you might notice an increase in your usual discharge (called seborrhea), thanks to more estrogen in your system and an increase in blood flow. This normal early pregnancy discharge is thin, milky white and has a mild smell.
Discharge before a period tends to be cloudy or white, due to the increased presence of progesterone, a hormone involved in both the menstrual cycle and pregnancy. In other phases of the cycle, when the body has higher levels of estrogen, vaginal discharge tends to be clear and watery.
The consistency and color of cervical discharge change in different stages of the menstrual cycle. In the fertile window in the days before ovulation, discharge will increase and become creamy and opaque. At ovulation and a day or so before, the cervical mucus will be stretchy and resemble egg white.
