It is impossible of find the document I am seeking and all I am getting is a WASTE OF MY TIME!!! The website is incredibly difficult to navigate!!!!! I don't think I am getting much value for the money I spent to print just one document!!! After this horrible experience SUPPORT STAFF was able to assist me in accessing the necessary document and getting it filled out to me the deadline. Unlocking a cell phone has been legal for more than half a year, thanks to a change in the law. The decision to renew the exemption was scrapped, meaning cell phone and smartphone owners can take their phones to other carriers. So long as your phone is compatible with a new network, the switch can be made.
Your carrier may refuse to unlock your phone if: Your phone has not been paid off in full. You have any past due payments or unpaid balances with your carrier. Your phone is reported lost or stolen. You haven't met their unlocking requirements.
The era of having to pay cellular providers to unlock your cellphone will end this year. As of Dec. 1, cellphone customers can ask their provider to unlock their phones free of charge, the CRT announced Thursday. Then they charge a fee typically $50 to unlock the phone if a customer wants to switch providers.
Carriers, upon request, will unlock mobile wireless devices no later than one year after initial activation, consistent with reasonable time, payment, or usage requirements. Notice.
As of February 11, no carrier can deny a request to unlock a users' phone, once the two-year contract is paid up. This past August, President Barack Obama signed the Unlocking Consumer Choice and Wireless Competition Act into law, finally making it legal once more to unlock your phone.
A GSM cell phone will only work with a GSM carrier and will not work on a CDMA network provider. Unlocking the phone, however, is almost universally legal. Additionally, it is often legal for carriers to force SIM locks for certain amounts of time, varying by region.
When a handset is locked it means it will only work with the provider from whom you bought it. If your phone is locked it won't automatically become unlocked when your contract expires with your provider. You'll have to specifically ask your carrier to unlock it.
