Some states allow teachers with an expired certificate to receive an extension, allowing them to keep their license current until certification standards can be met. However, to be eligible, a teacher must have passed the state's Content Specialty Test. A $50 application fee is required to request an extension.
If your Florida teaching certificate has expired, you may apply for its reinstatement. Along with the renewal application and processing fee, you must submit documentation of completion of at least six semester hours of credit in each area in which you are certified during the past five years.
Every five years, educators have to meet continuing education requirements to renew their licenses.
All applicants for initial licensure and renewals must show proof of valid CPR/AED/Heimlich certification. Apply and renew online! Create a profile in the Licensing Verification and Information System (LIVS) to complete your licensing needs. An expired license may be renewed at any time.
If your teaching certificate is not renewed, it is placed on inactive status. To reinstate it, you must pay an additional fee of $40 and meet the CPE requirements for renewal. If you are not fulfilling student loan and/or child support payment obligations, your certificate will be revoked.
When a teacher's certification has expired, the state's education department can provide a reinstatement application. This form must be completed and returned to the appropriate department to be considered for reinstatement.
