ZIP code 00000 is not currently assigned by the US Postal Service to any city.
If I am given a zip code like 11111, it is technically a valid zip code, but it doesn't exist.
ZIP code 66666 is not currently assigned by the US Postal Service to any city. Only about 42,000 of the 100,000 possible 5-digit ZIP codes are currently in use.
The first part is the first five digits of the zip code which indicates the destination post office or delivery area. The last 4 digits of the nine-digit ZIP Code represents a specific delivery route within that overall delivery area. All 9 digits of a full zip code assist the USPS in effectively sorting the mail.
Alphanumeric postal codes Most of the postal code systems are numeric; only a few are alphanumeric (i.e., use both letters and digits). ... For example, while a 2 digit numeric code can represent 100 locations, a 2 character alphanumeric code using ten numbers and twenty letters can represent 900 locations.
Alas, the lowest zip code isn't a single digit or in possession of the Supreme Court or other such group.
