Can you build a house without a license?
Even if you own the land and plan to live in the house its unlikely you can pull permits to build a house with no license. Its possible you can do this. But you will still need permits and inspections.
Do I need a general contractor license to build my own house?
California. All general contractors in California must hold a state license from the California Contractors State License Board for any work worth more than $500. You can apply for a general engineering contractor or general building contractor license.
