Can you change the date on an invoice?
The date of service has nothing to do with the date of invoice The top right of your Invoice form shows the invoice date you have 1/11/14 there and need to change it to the intended 2013 date. The date appears to the left of the Invoice number on the screen. Just modify that date and save.
Is changing an invoice illegal?
It's not illegal, per se, to amend an invoice that you've raised, but it is covering your back as it could invite litigation if you amend your own version of it without cancelling the original version — in particular if the customer has actually paid against the original.
Can an invoice be changed?
Changing invoices that have already been issued If you would like to change the original amount issued on the invoice to either higher or lower, you will need to issue a credit note. Instead, you can simply create a new invoice with the corrected information, and send the new bill to your customer.
Is an invoice legally binding?
An invoice is not a legal document on its own. While invoicing is an important accounting practice for businesses, invoices do not serve as a legally binding agreement between the business and its client. There is no proof on the invoice itself that both parties have agreed to its terms.
Is it illegal to edit an invoice?

What happens if an invoice is incorrect?
If an incorrect invoice has been sent, the business must issue a cancellation invoice with its own, new invoice number. Can I backdate an invoice?
In some cases, backdating is pure fabrication. It is improper, of course, to date a document on one date, but the event occurred on a different, later date. The backdating of invoices to make it appear that revenue occurred in an earlier period on a company's financial statements.
How far can you backdate an invoice?
Well in short the answer is yes, unless more than six years have passed. The only regulations placing a time limit on collecting a genuine debt is the Limitation Act 1980.
