Does your social security card have to match your license?
All applicants for a driver license and/or identification (DL/ID) card must submit his/her social security number to DMV. The name and birthdate you provide on your DL/ID application must match the name and birthdate the SSA has for you in its database.
Does your driver's license name have to match your Social Security card?
All applicants for a driver license and/or identification (DL/ID) card must submit his/her social security number to DMV. You will receive a Request for Verification of Information letter from DMV informing you that the information you provided (name, birthdate, and/or SSN) does not match SSA's records.

But on the whole, no. They don't match and no one matches them, except as mentioned above. Interestingly, banks do use a driver's license number as a unique identifier when a store wants to verify your identity in order to take or cash a check.
Do I change my Social Security card or driver's license first?
After your social security card is filed, it's time to get a new driver's license. Most DMS will change it with a copy of a marriage certificate, although others may require you to wait until your social security card has been changed.

These include a U.S. birth certificate or U.S. passport. This documentation is only required if you have NOT already established citizenship with us. If you need to change your name on your Social Security card, you must show us proof of your legal name change. Court order approving the name change.
How does your name appear on your Social Security card?
A middle name or suffix is not considered part of the legal name. The SSN card has two lines for the NH's name with 26 spaces on the first line for the NH's first and middle names and 26 spaces on the second line for the last name and suffix, if any.
Does your passport need to match your Social Security card?
Your passport and social security name do not need to match. An airline or TSA will never ask for your social security card. You may continue to travel internationally under your maiden or previous married name.
Do I need to change my name on my Social Security card before my passport?
Once you legally change your name with the Social Security Administration, your passport is no longer valid; the only way to restore its validity is by updating your name with the State Department, too. If you don't have certifiable evidence, then you'll have to start over from scratch and apply for a new passport.
