Procreation is the official term for signing for someone else. This term is taken from the Latin word procurer meaning to take care of. Now, when signing on someone else's behalf, the signature is preceded by p.p. standing for per procurationem.
Anyone can endorse your signature on a check if you ask them to, and in most states, this is perfectly legal. The same might apply if your elderly father is no longer able to sign his own name.
Perfectly legal to sign someone else's signature, with permission. Forgery is only a crime if the signing is with the intent to defraud. Now, if your signature is going to be notarized, it *is* a crime to pretend to be someone you are not.
Forgery refers to faking a signature without permission, making a false document or another object, or changing an existing document or another object without authorization. The most common form of forgery is signing someone else's name to a check, but objects, data, and documents can also be forged.
Anyone can endorse your signature on a check if you ask them to, and in most states, this is perfectly legal. The same might apply if your elderly father is no longer able to sign his own name.
Not all banks accept them, but a few do. If you get (steal), blank checks from someone else, fill it in with a forged signature, then cash it, you are violation of both State and Federal laws. If all of it inside one state, that state will be more than happy to toss you into a state prison.
Obviously, you cannot just take a picture of your signature on a piece of paper, crop it, and paste in your documents to use it for making the documents legal; this method will not provide any decent level of evidence as someone else can easily copy-paste it from your document to another document.
A legally binding signature makes an agreement official once all parties have placed their signatures on a contract. Signatures are the most common method of indicating that you have read over and agreed to the terms, even if a person's signature is so stylized and unique that's illegible.
Usually, a signature is simply someone's name written in a stylized fashion. However, that is not really necessary. As long as it adequately records the intent of the parties involved in a contractual agreement, it's considered a valid signature. Usually this mark is made by a pen, but not necessarily.
Real signatures are always slightly different, and they differ every time. If the signatures are exact replica there is a very strong possibility of forgery. Difference between signatures increases proportionally with the complexity. Simple ones are less different from one another.
Traditionally, signatures are in cursive, but it can be argued that it's not a requirement. This means that with a wet signature (i.e. a signature that is written rather than electronically typed), a person could potentially use their printed (non-cursive) name or even a symbol like a happy face as a valid signature.
Electronic signatures have the same legal status as handwritten signatures throughout the United States, thanks to the DESIGN Act and the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (BETA).
A lawyer, a notary public or a third party without an interest in the document may serve as a witness to a legal document. In some states, a lawyer's or notary's signature may be required on certain documents to limit the chance of forgery.
Generally, the person you choose to witness a document should have no financial or other interest in an agreement. A neutral third party is someone not related to either party and who does not benefit from the document. A witness does not have to read the document, but they must be present when it is signed.
