DD is an abbreviation for Document Discriminator, a piece of information that several states started adding to their driver's licenses. The DD is a security code that identifies where and when the license was issued. It uniquely identifies each card that was issued to a given individual.
DD is Document Discriminator, which uniquely identifies a particular driver license or ID card. This is specified in the DL/ID Card Design Standard published by the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AA MVA).
The DD code on the front of the new Tennessee license stands for “document discriminator”. The 16-digit code is just a new security measure added to each driver's license as required by Homeland Security. What that does be identify that card to where and when it was issued.
Field 5 is the document discriminator. It is an internal number used to uniquely identify a particular document issued to an individual from others that may have been issued in the past.
Typically, your driver's license number is relatively easy to find. It should be prominently located on the front of your card.
