Payment vouchers can be used to record payments of cash or cheques. A voucher check – or check payment voucher – is a combination of a check and a voucher. It includes important information about each party involved in a transaction and creates an auditable paper trail about that check's payment.
The voucher check creates a paper trail for the payment by the issuer of the check. The recipient of the voucher check detaches one voucher part and retains it for record-keeping before cashing the check. The issuer retains the other voucher portion.
5. Releasing the check voucher. Once all the above steps are completed, the vendor or payee must acknowledge receipt of the check and must also sign the voucher check.
The voucher check is typically printed as a full sheet of paper, with the check at the top and the two removable vouchers below. The payee holds on to the first voucher. Before cashing the check, the recipient will remove the remaining voucher and keep it for their records.
