hey I've got a tip for you today for your concrete driveway that's going to make it last longer it'll require less maintenance and frankly this tip is going to make it look awesome hey I'm here at a house that my company's just finishing with amonton Plum Architects and they specified something for our concrete driveway joints which I wanted to take a minute and really tell you about I think this is really a best practice we're going to be talking about a product that's going to seal the joints between our driveways now this concrete driveway we've got here this is a salt finished concrete driveway it's already been sealed and if you've seen a a concrete driveway before you know how nasty those joints on a concrete driveway can look often times they're weedy the wood strip is coming up they're uneven they really can look very ugly on this new construction house we've set up uh ahead of time to be ready for this and I'm actually here with uh Ben Bron one of my project managers and Ben is an expert on this type of sealants Ben tell us about this SL2 sealant we're using today well BASF has two product lines of polyurethane sealants that are really very effective and and durable exterior applications um the first one which most contractors I expect are familiar with are the np1 and SL1 product lines um the version of that that we're going to be using today are the np2 and SL2 product line and the difference is whereas the np1 and SL1 is a single part you just buy a tube of it and you can go ahead and apply it the SL2 is actually a three-part product um it's got benefits mainly in the Cure time instead of being five or seven days it's cured a traffic uh in 24 hours which is good for a driveway way we're trying to maintain access the mp2 is a it's a low viscosity product it's great for vertical applications you see it used a lot around ceiling exterior windows and then within the SL2 line there's two different viscosities there's a medium viscosity which is the SL2 slope grade if you have any kind of slope for example if this driveway was pitched to one side that would be a great product to use um but what we're using today is the SL2 self-leveling and it's a high viscosity it'll flow and and level out inside the expansion joints so tell us Ben when we apply this to the joints what benefits is this concrete driveway going to have besides of course the Aesthetics cuz it really looks awesome it does it looks much better but it'll prevent weeds from coming up through I've spent many days round uping my own driveway um and it's also uh it's great at preventing water from penetrating that expansion joint a control joint usually is only about a quarter depth of the driveway but a true expansion joint goes all the way through the concrete and you really want to minimize the amount of water that penetrates that uh and moistens or or wets or erods the the subgrade we've got 12 in of compacted uh road base below this driveway and we really want to...
