What do you have to do to get a star on your license?
REAL ID-compliant cards are marked with a star at the top of the card. If you're not sure, contact your state driver's license agency on how to obtain a REAL ID compliant card. For info by state, including where to obtain a REAL ID, visit the DHS REAL ID website and click your state on the map.
Why do I need a star on my driver's license?
Starting Oct. 1, 2020, every air traveler will be required to present a REAL ID-compliant license or other acceptable form of identification for domestic air travel. The STAR ID (STAR stands for Secure, Trusted and Reliable) will also be required for entrance to some government facilities, such as military bases.
What do you need to get a gold star on your license?
If your driver's license or ID doesn't have a federally-required REAL ID gold star by Oct. 1, 2020, additional identification and screening may be required to fly or enter a federal building. For more information or to find out how to get a REAL ID, visit: iowadot.gov/mvd/realid.
