The following can cause registration mark reading failure: The latest version of Silhouette Studio® is not in use. The cutting mat settings in the software do not match the actual set up. The material is not being loaded placed properly onto the cutting mat or is in the wrong orientation.
Printer's Marks. Printer's marks are special marks that are added to your PDF files and to the edge of your parent sheets to assist the offset printing press in proper alignment, trimming and color values. This printer's marks are trimmed off once printing is complete.
To have bled on a document means that the printed design is intending to extend to one or more of the edges of the document. Bleed is typically required to extend 2 mm or more past the crop marks. This ensures that when the document is trimmed, the design does go the very edge of the page.
Crop Marks Or Trim Marks: Crop marks also called trim marks thin lines placed at the corners of your artwork that indicate where to trim your finished project. A design with a bleed is one where the artwork extends a minimum of 1/8 past the edge of the finished design.
Registration marks print outside the trim area of printing. They can include bulls-eye targets, crop marks, plate information, etc. These marks allow the printer to accurately align separate letterpress plates for multiple color print jobs and better align cuts when trimming.
Bleed is a printing term that is used to describe a document which has images or elements that touch the edge of the page, extending beyond the trim edge and leaving no white margin. When a document has bled, it must be printed on a larger sheet of paper and then trimmed down.
Why is bleed so important when printing? The main reason for ensuring you include a bleed section when designing for print is to avoid white strips appearing along the edge of your print work. This can occur from time to time as there can often be movement when you are printing your final document.
Technically, full bleed printing does not require a special kind of printer. You can use a standard desktop printer to make a full bleed print. That means that you can buy a full bleed printer anywhere!
