Lower Working Age Might Help. These kids need to be learning the responsibilities that only working on real jobs can create. Jobs give them a sense of real worth, gets them off the streets and decreases some temptations of a gang membership. The age limit for working should be lowered to age 13 instead of 16.
There are benefits to having a job Fourteen-year-olds could learn life skills, work ethic, as well as time and money management. Students as young as 14 should be able to hold jobs because some kids need the money, kids can learn new skills, and they will become more responsible.
Should Your Teen Get A Job? I always thought you had to be 16 to get a job, but 14- and 15-year-olds can work as long as they work no more than three hours a day and 18 hours a week during the school year. They also can't work past 7:00 p.m. during the school year.
The average American family pays approximately 50 cents per week for each year of a child's age. [mint blog] By that, a 14-year-old would get $7 per week. The world median annual household income is $9,733. The U.S. average household income is around $52k.
Youth 14 and 15 years old enrolled in an approved Work Experience and Career Exploration Program (WEEP) may be employed for up to 23 hours in school weeks and 3 hours on school days (including during school hours). The FLEA does not limit the number of hours or times of day for workers 16 years and older.
It can hurt academic achievement. While the correlation between working and grades is not easy to measure, researchers have learned that students who work upward of 20 hours a week suffer from reduced academic performance. It often fails to teach valuable skills. Most high school students work tedious jobs.
High school students who work begin to feel and act more adult. Students cannot usually be employed more than 20 hours per week or their grades begin to suffer, they do less homework, and they are more likely to drop out. Not all students are capable of handling a part-time job during the school year.
Should teenagers work while they are students? It is true that is some countries teenagers have jobs while they are still students. Teenagers who have part-time jobs while they study get some valuable work experience. Most of the employers will be appreciative of the work experience an individual has.
