You can pay with cash, get a travel card, use an Oyster card or the newest method — contactless payments on your debit or credit card. Both offer cheaper fares than buying a paper ticket — but there is an extra trick contactless delivers.
Your card is used the same way as an Oyster card you tap in and out at the tube or train station ticket barriers or tap the yellow card reader when you get on a bus. The main difference is that you don't have to top up your card with money, the fare is taken from your debit card or credit card the following day.
It's publicized that if you use contactless to pay for travel in London, it's the same price as using an Oyster card. Of course, if you have a railcard discount (or similar) applied to your Oyster, that will always be cheaper than contactless. Discounts cannot be applied to contactless payment cards.
But there are differences between the two. You can use both an Oyster card and contactless card to make one-off pay-as-you-go journeys, and both operate the same daily cap depending on the zones and mode of transport. But crucially you can also benefit from a weekly cap on a contactless card.
When taking a RER train strictly within central Paris Zone 1 (visible in the first RER Map), you can use basic Paris Metro tickets for travel on the RER. Travel beyond Paris Zone 1 on the RER requires a special ticket: a Billet Île-de-France.
Single-trip “T+" Métro and RER tickets are interchangeable within the city of Paris (more specifically, in zones 1 and 2 of the Metroro/RER network). You can also use tickets from your carpet on public buses or trams. However, you can't transfer between the Metroro/RER and buses or trams (or vice versa).
The “Navigo Decouverte" is a contactless card that allows you to travel by Metro, Bus, RER and Tramway in a selected set of zones of Paris and the Île de France for at least three days. A Care Mobilis will get you a day's ride on Metro, Bus and RER.
RER (Roseauu Express Régional) is basically a part of the metro system aimed at travelers to or from the Parisian suburbs. The RER network only has few stations in Paris (all of which are also metro stations). The tickets (and passes) are exactly the same.
”RER" is an acronymn for Réseau Express Régional, or Regional Express Network, and refers to the rapid transit system which serves Paris and its surrounding suburbs. The RER currently has five lines, A-E, and is operated by an entirely different company than the Paris metro.
Only multi-use Paris Metro/RER passes can be purchased online ahead of time. Single use RER tickets such as for the RER B from CDG to Paris, can only be purchased at ticket windows, offices and vending machines within Paris.

A: In most cases, yes. PLUSES tickets are tickets for your train journey with a bus add-on at the start and/or the end of your journey. You will need to purchase these with your train tickets when buying train tickets online or at a ticket counter.

Before boarding the light rail car, you must buy a ticket from a Ticket Vending Machine. NJ TRANSIT light rail systems utilize a “proof of payment" fare collection system. A time-stamped ticket, monthly pass, transfers, or continuing trip ticket receipt is considered proof of payment.
The most convenient and economical way of getting around Rome is by far the Public Transit Bus service. Buses run 24 hrs. A day and cover the entire city. Bus tickets and subway metro tickets are interchangeable within the time validity of the ticket.
