Can I call the police if my landlord locked me out?
If you are locked out, you can call the police and file a lawsuit. Again, being behind in rent or failing to fulfill your duties as a tenant does not mean your landlord has the right to lock you out.
Who do I call if my landlord locked me out?
*Call the clerk of your local Superior Court. Make sure the landlord did not file an eviction against you. If the landlord did, and you believe the landlord did not serve you, get legal help right away. If the landlord locks you out, you can take the landlord to court.
Can an apartment lock you out?
Landlords can't just lock you out, even if you are behind on rent. They must get a court judgment first. Your landlord can't evict you without terminating the tenancy first. This usually means giving you adequate written notice, in a specified way and form.
What is the fine charged to a tenant for getting locked out?
Under Section 789(c), an offending landlord must pay (1) the tenant's actual damages, and (2) a fine of $100 per day of the violation, with a minimum amount of $250.
Can landlord lock me out of my business?
A: No landlord cannot lock you out without notice of eviction. Your landlord also cannot rent out or not protect your property under any circumstances (even if you are behind on rent).
