Social Security typically remits back pay in a lump sum disbursement. If you have a spouse or dependent children who are entitled to benefits based on your SSDI claim, they will also receive back pay.
If you were eligible for Child Benefit before HMRC got your claim form, your claim will be automatically backdated - up to a maximum of 3 months. If your children are entitled to payments under your SSDI benefits, they will receive back pay for the same number of months as you. Generally, your child will receive up to 50% of your total SSDI benefit. It is important to note that there is a maximum amount that a family can receive based on one disabled individual's benefits. The family limit is usually 150% - 180% of the SSDI benefit awarded to the disabled individual.

Back payments are payable for both Social Security disability and SSI disability claims. Retroactive benefits, on the other hand, can be paid for the months you were disabled and unable to work before you applied for disability benefits. Only SSDI applicants are eligible for retroactive benefits.
